WOMENS STUDIES REPORT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022

 

Guest talk on Gender Sensitization

          A guest talk on “Gender Sensitization” was conducted on 26-8-2021 by the Centre for Women Studies, CH. S. D. St. Theresa’s college for women (A) , Eluru . The talk was organized on the eve of Gender Equality Day which falls on August 26 every year.

                                

 

 

 

 

 

The Guest talk was conducted under the leadership of the Principal Dr. Sr. Marietta D’ Mello and guidance of vice Principal Dr. Sr. Showrilu, by the Coordinator of Centre for Women's Studies

Dr. A. Padmavathi and the members of Centre for Women's Studies Ln. Dr. S. Rajya laxmi, Member of  AP  Women’s Commission was the Guest speaker and all the student members of the centre were the participants . The Programme was composed by Mrs. M. K. Padmalatha ,Asst. Prof, Dept of English.

 

       The Programme started with a prayer followed by the welcome address by Mrs.Lumbini Devi , Asst.prof.Dept of Biochemistry .Later Dr.A.Padmavathi , the Coordinator of the centre for Women Studies and Head of the Department of Microbiology  and Biochemistry spoke on the significance of the Gender Equality Day.

 

 


 

             Further, the Guest speaker Smt. Ln. Dr. S.Rajalakshmi garu was introduced to the gathering and later she spoke at length about the importance of Gender equality and the consequences of inequality which is existing in the society .She also highlighted about the self-discipline and defense mechanism which women has to abide for overcoming the difficulties. She also stressed on the need to adhere to the Indian values and traditions .She insisted that family and education plays a vital role in grooming the health of the society. She also presented the efforts of Women’s Commission in attaining Women’s equality and throw light on various sections in IPC which protects women.

 

             Later the participants interacted with the guest speaker and expressed their happiness over the elaborate presentation of the guest speaker.

     

                Later the programme came to a  conclusion with the offering of vote of thanks by Mrs G.Rani,Asst Prof,dept of Botany.The programme was attended by 103 participants who were all highly enlightened about women’s rights.

 

 Guest talk on Functioning of Disha App.

The Centre for Women's Studies,  Ch. S. D. St Theresa's College for Women (A), Eluru has conducted an Orientation Session on the functioning of Disha app on           14 -9- 2021 at 3:30 p.m. The Orientation Session was conducted for the final year degree students of the college. The programme was held under the guidance of the principal of the college Dr. Sr. Marietta D’mello by the coordinator of the Centre for Women's Studies Dr. A. Padmavati, Head of Department of Microbiology and the Members of the Centre for Women's Studies.

 



The session was arranged mainly to create an understanding in student about the possible dangers which girls and women may face in the society and how Disha app is relevant to avoid the dangers. As a part of the programme the CI of III Town Police Station and member of AP Women Police Mrs. Vijaya Lakshmi created an awareness about how to download and install the app and use the app. They conducted a demonstration and also enlightened the gathering about the uses of the app.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The programme was attended by 205 students of various degree courses and faculty. Dr. Major. P. Celine Rose extended a helping hand in organizing the orientation session.

 

 

 

 Guest talk on Women’s Safety.

On 17- 9- 2021 An Awareness Session on Women’s Safety was organised by the Centre of Women's Studies, Ch .S.D. St Theresa's College for Women under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Sr. Marietta D' Mello and the correspondent Dr. Sr. Marietta Pudota. The awareness session was conducted by the District Legal Services Authority, DLSA. The program was hosted for the students and staff of the college.

 

As a part of the program the special Judicial Judge of Lok Adalat, Eluru, Mr. Paresh Kumar and practicing advocates Mr. P. Ramudu and Mr. Venkateswara Rao spoke to the audience about the legal and safety issues of women.  The first speaker of the session Mr Ramudu stressed upon the need of self- confidence and use of Disha app for dealing with women's issues.




 

The second speaker Mr .Venkateswara Rao stressed upon the need of legal knowledge and highlighted the objectives of Lok Adalat which provides free legal services to the needy.

 

The third and important speaker Mr. Paresh Kumar, Special Judicial Judge, Mobile Court enlightened the gathering about the various problem-solving techniques for offences against women. He stressed upon the need for legal awareness and awareness for rights to protect ourselves from crimes.

 

The Program came to an end with the closing remarks of the Correspondent of the college Dr.Sr. Marietta Pudota  who congratulated the DLSA for their initiative to conduct such a session and stressed upon the need for legal awareness in all people.

 

 An Orientation session on Online Women’s Safety.

Women Studies Center,  CH. S. D. St. Theresa’s College for Women (A), Eluru in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission,  National Commission for Women and AdikaviNannaya University organized a Webinar on “Online Safety foe Women”.  Experts from Cyber Peace Foundation were the resouxe persons for the webinar.  The Webinar was conducted on 24thSeptember, 2021 from 10.00 am to 11.00 am.

Nearly 70 staff and 330 students of the CH. S. D. St. Theresa’s College for Women participated in the Webinar which was conducted on the Zoom platform.   The Webinar was intended to create an inclusive and safe cyber ecosystem where women are empowered to use technology and internet without any apprehension.  As a part of the Webinar many issues related to  Women’s Safety were discussed along with some real case studies. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

COMPETITIONS

 POSTER PAINTING COMPETITION CONDUCTED BY THE WOMEN’S STUDIES CENTRE ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on February 11th every year.


Centre for Women Studies’, CH. S. D. St. Theresa’s College for Women (A) conducted a Poster painting competition on occasion of International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 10th 2022.  The competition was conducted under the guidance of the principal of the College Dr. Sr. Marietta D’ Mello and the Secretary of the Centre for Women Studies’ Dr. A. Padmavathi.

                            



 

The theme of the painting competition was “Women – Then and Now”.  The competition was conducted for the II yr Degree Students.  A total of 17 students participated and presented their innovative ideas on the theme.  The posters were adjudicated by Mrs. Bhanu prasanna, Faculty, Dept. of Home Science and Ms. Aswiya, Faculty in Community College and three best performers were selected.

                           



 

The members of the Centre for Women Studies’ Mrs. M. K. Padma Lata, Mrs. Rani, Mrs. Lumbini Devi and Mrs. Saraswathi actively participated in the event in the conduct of the poster painting competition.

 THE CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S DAY ON THE OCCASION OF THE BIRTH CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF SAROJINI NAIDU.

The occasion of the birth centenary of Sarojini Naidu i.e., February 13th has been declared as the Women’s Day in India.

On this occasion the Centre for Women Studies, CH. S. D. St. Theresa’s College for Women (A) conducted a guest talk on “Women Rights and Law”.  The guest talk was organized in collaboration with the IQAC under the leadership of the principal of the college Dr. Sr. Marietta D’ Mello.

 

                  

 



 

The programme started with a prayer.  Later the guest speaker was welcomed with a sapling.  The guest talk was conducted on 12th February 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm.  The speaker for the occasion was Ms. Jyothirmai, Junior Practicing Advocate, District Court, Eluru.

                  

 

 



 

The speaker enlightened the gathering about various laws under IPC and spoke in detail about various incidents which come under Domestic violence.  Also she gave in detailed review of the events which fall under Sexual harrasement at workplace and places of education.

 

           



 

In an interactive session, Ms. Jyothirmai created an in-depth awareness of various legal support sources for the under privileged.

 

 



 

The programme came to end with a response from the members of the women cell and a vote of thanks.
